1. INTRODUCTION
----------------

  FJ-IDE Quick Diagnostic Tool (QDIAG Tool) is provided for use in
  checking FUJITSU IDE drives for possible defects/problems at the
  customer side or at the manufacturing pre-shipment section.
  The program includes 3 separate modules, independent of each other.
  These 3 modules are:  Quick Test; Comprehensive Test (Read Only);
  and Comprehensive Test with Write.

    be an unofficial release or beta version. Please always update your
    copy and use the latest official release/version.

  To ensure correct operations, please check if your copy of the program
  conforms with the ff. specifications:

        File Size  : 178,000 bytes
        Build Time : 1:01 PM 03-16-00


3. USER'S GUIDE
---------------

3.1. Requirement

        a) Operating System : MS-DOS
           * This version has only been tested from MS-DOS 5.0 and above

        b) CPU: 80x86 INTEL-Based/Compatibles motherboards


3.2. Running the program

     3.2.1. Boot from a clean DOS disk.
     3.2.2. Change to the disk/directory where QDIAG.EXE is located.
     3.2.3. At the DOS prompt, type QDIAG to execute the program.

        *Note: You should not run this program under a DOS shell program or
               WINDOWS environment. If you are running Windows 95, restart
               your system in MS-DOS mode.


3.3. Inside the program

     a) At the startup, the program pops-up the DISCLAIMER window
        to the user.
        When the user accepts all what is stated in the disclaimer,
        the Main Menu will be displayed. This is the actual starting
        point of the program.

     b) At the Main Menu, the device (Primary Master, Primary Slave,
        Secondary Master, and Secondary Slave)will show all drives to be
        tested.  Then Press Enter to Select the type of test to execute.

     c) Then another menu box pop-ups which then displays the 3 available
        types of test included for the QDIAG Tool(QUICK, COMPRENSIVE,
        COMPREHENSIVE WITH WRITE).  Choosing (via pressing ENTER) the type
        of test to exe-cute. Then a message box appears for saving of the
        disk to file, then if you have chosen Comprehensive with write test
        a box will warn you about writing to disk if you want to continue.
        After this Sub Tests will be executed.

     d) After all the subtests have been performed, a display of Test Results
        is shown on the screen via a pop-up box.  However, in case an error/s
        has/have occurred during any part the sub-tests, the operation is
        halted automatically, and likewise, a display of Test Results is
        shown on all drives by pressing F4 for viewing the test results on
        all drives tested.

     e) The F1 key at the main menu is for viewing the Error Log in the disk
        if any.


     *Note: The operation of any of the 3 tests can be halted/stopped via
            pressing F10, after which the program is brought back to the
            Main Menu.
            For the Comprehensive Test with Write, a warning message is
            shown prior to execution, prompting the user to decide whether
            to proceed, as all data will be lost during the operation of
            this test.
            The program is exited via pressing ESC during the Main Menu.


4. TEST SEQUENCE
----------------

 The following are the breakdown of the series of subtests for each of
 the 3 tests of the QDIAG Tool.

  - Quick Test
    a) Soft Reset and Ready Check
    b) Identify Device Check
    c) Power Save Mode Test
    d) Buffer Write/Read Test
    e) Media Scan for Outer Area (LBA first 100 MB)
    f) Media Scan for Inner Area (LBA last 100 MB)
    g) Fundamental Seek Test (Random Seek and Random Read)

  - Comprehensive Test (Read Only)
    a) Soft Reset and Ready Check
    b) Identify Device Check
    c) Power Save Mode Test
    d) Buffer Write/Read Test
    e) Butterfly Read Test (30 seconds)
    f) Media Scan for all Data Area
    g) Random Seek Read Test (30 seconds)

  - Comprehensive Test with Write
    a) Soft Reset and Ready Check
    b) Identify Device Check
    c) Power Save Mode Test
    d) Buffer Write/Read Test
    e) Butterfly Read Test (30 seconds)
    f) Media Scan for all Data Area
    g) Write Recovery Check
    h) Random Seek Read Test (30 seconds)
    i) Random Read-Write_Read with Data Compare (5 minutes)
    j) Write 00 Data to first 100 MB and last 100 MB

  *Note: Default mode is LBA addressing. However if a device does not support
         LBA mode, the program reverts to CHS addressing mode.


5. TEST RESULTS
---------------

  Only two test status are available. These are PASSED and FAILED.
  The drive has passed a test if all the series of subtests included under
  a test has been performed successfully.
  Otherwise, a drive has failed the test.  Although, a display of the Test
  Results is provided at the end of the test, a Test Results file can be
  generated.  The filename of this file is the drive serial number,
  with an extension of 'qdg' (ex. 00000500.qdg).
  Written in the file is a summary of test performed, as well as a breakdown
  of which subtest has been performed successfully, which has failed, or
  which has not yet been performed at all.

  Also the Header file of the error log at the User Area is FJQD.
